After a bit of a break over the summer and a bit of pondering about how to go about producing the show with the formatting changes at Treet TV; a few things happened that set into motion a new season for Metaverse Arts faster than you can say “Wait, I’m still rezzing!”.
Treet cameraman Howdy Colter offered to help us film the program and prepare it for airing and then long time Treet Producer Angie Mornington stepped up to help us out as well. So before we knew it we were diving into to filming an episode at Burn2.
What is Burn2, you might ask? BURN2 is an extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It is an officially sanctioned Burning Man regional event, and the only virtual world event out of more than 100 real world Regional groups. The first Burn, in 2003, was a project of Linden Labs, and over the years as it grew and Second Life grew, festival was run more and more by residents of Second Life.
The BURN2 Team spreads Burning Culture and Burning Man Ten Principles year round in Second Life, culminating in an annual major festival of community, art and fire in the fall – a virtual echo of Burning Man itself.
This year the virtual arts community is represented by ten residents, a collection of invited and juried artists, as well as more art than we can cover in a half hour program! The juried and invited artists include
• Claudia222 Jewell
• Trill Zapatero
• RAG Randt
• Rebeca Bashly
• Starlash Sweetwater
• Oberon Onmura
• Yman Juran
• Caro Fayray
• Maya Paris AND
• Cienega Soon
For the first half of our show we caught up with two of the Burn2 Art Team members, Karima Hoisan and MenuBar Memorial, to find out a little bit about the Art Department and the art aspect of Burn2. They tell us a little about what it was like choosing from the art submissions and being a part of the Art Community at Burn2.
During the second half of the show, we met up with artists Briawinde Magic and Trill Zapatero. who share with us their art installations and the inspiration behind them, as well as their experience in the Burn2 community.
Stayed tuned here on our site for links to the different art installations, artists’ websites and photos from our end of the show slide show, photographed by PJ Trenton. You can watch the Burn2 Episode on the Metaverse Arts set on Thursday, October 6th, 2011
